I'm not going to make light of the impending ice storm, because this one scares me. Anyone that's ever lived through an ice storm is bound to get a big nervous. When I was in high school (wayyyyyyyy back when) we had an awful ice storm. We lived out in the country...15 miles from the nearest town to the north, south, east or west. When I got home from school, I couldn't even see my house from the end of the lane because all of the branches from the trees had fallen. The TV antenna was normally mounted on a metal tower, but it lay on the ground in a twisted heap. We lost power, which caused our basement to flood with over a foot of water. We ended up going into town to stay with my grandparents who had power. I think this lasted for almost 2 weeks. I had a track meet in the middle of it all at Purdue, so I drove home to get my track uniform. On my way back home, I had my very first wreck. I pulled out in front of someone...I have no idea why I didn't see him. It was one of the first times I had driving alone in town, as I had only recently gotten my license. Nice. THANKFULLY, the gentleman that I hit was friends with my Grandpa, and I think he felt sorry for me because all I could say was, "My dad is gonna KILL me." Dad didn't kill me, but his silence said it all. I was not gonna get outta THAT one easily.
I was doing a little searching and found this video on YouTube. It was taken in a neighboring county, but it gives a GREAT idea of what the damage was from that storm
Wow, I just went on a bit of a trip down memory lane...thanks for joining me. Ok, where was I??? Oh yes, ice storm. I'm HOPING that this one won't be anything like that, but if there's anything positive that I can draw from it is the photo opportunities that are coming up!!! That's kind of exciting, right? I mean, getting shots like this kinda soothes the inconveniences of it all for me, so I guess I better make sure that my batteries are charged before we lose power :) Everyone be careful out there! My husband just took the dogs out for a potty, and my dog slipped ;)
